HISTORY
St. Ambrose Church came into being through the zeal of its first Incumbent, the Reverend Joseph S. Mayers, who on his arrival in the island, having been placed for a brief period in charge of a Church in the district, saw the spiritual need for another Church to accommodate the growing population in the area. The Church was built in 1857 and consecrated on January 1, 1858.
The land on which the Church is built was given by brothers Thomas and Peter Rebbitt. The building was designed by Mr. John Inniss, and the owner of Clapham Plantation, St. Michael, gave the stone. The funds for its erection was raised by private contributions, loans and grants from the Legislature.
